Prayer of Confession

A Prayer of Confession:

At Horeb they made a calf
and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
They exchanged their glorious God
for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
They forgot the God who saved them,
who had done great things in Egypt,
miracles in the land of Ham
and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.

Lord, I have not bowed down to a golden calf.
I have not made a graven image to worship.
I have not called an object my god.
But I have made many other priorities ahead of the God of Love.
I have chosen to be right rather than to pursue Love.
I have chosen to put my own interests ahead of my neighbor’s.
I have chosen revenge over reconciliation.
I have chosen power over peace.
I am sorry, God.
Show me how to reconcile with those I have harmed intentionally or unintentionally.
Give me the motivation and the heart to pursue your love above all else.
And show me how to bear fruit that can nourish a world hungry for justice and love.

Amen.
