What are worship services typically like?

We have two worship services at First Baptist Decatur: Fresh Start and Sanctuary.

Fresh Start is our contemporary worship service in Fellowship Hall. This service is more informal with free coffee and music led by a band. Fresh Start attracts a younger crowd, couples, and young families.

Sanctuary is our traditional worship service in the sanctuary. This service is more traditional with music led by a choir and accompanied by the organ and piano. While Sanctuary worship trends older, it tends to be the more popular service for first-time guests.

In addition to phenomenal music, both services include a time of greeting one another, scripture reading, and a Bible-based sermon.

What Sunday School class and Bible studies are there for me?

We have Sunday School classes and Bible studies at First Baptist Decatur that reflect a variety of learning styles and people groups.

Our recommendation? Visit several groups as a way to meet folks in the church and find the right fit for you. Don’t feel locked-in to a group the first time you visit.

Want help finding the right group for you? Download a Sunday School brochure, email the Welcome Center, or message us below for a recommendation that matches your preferences.

Who is welcome at FBCD?

You’ll find people from all walks of life at First Baptist Decatur, welcomed, included, and invited to participate in ALL aspects of our faith community in worship, leadership, and service.

(And if you’re wondering if that means we’re LGBTQ+ inclusive – absolutely).

Where do I park?

First Baptist Decatur is located at 308 Clairemont Ave, Decatur, GA, 30030. Plug it into your GPS and you should easily find us.

There are two main parking areas at the church:

  1. an outside parking lot, and

  2. a covered parking deck.

Most first-time guests find it easiest to park in the outside lot to the right (North) of the sanctuary building. Follow the signs and we even have dedicated parking for newcomers!

You can also park in the upper or lower-levels of the parking deck to the left (South) of the sanctuary building. The upper-level is accessible from Commerce Drive. The lower-level is accessible from Clairemont Ave.

Where do I go inside the building?

If it’s your first time visiting, we recommend entering the double-doors in the large covered entry way from the parking lot (North) side of the building. This is the first floor of the main building (Sanctuary Building).

If you’re attending Fresh Start, then walk straight down the hall to the welcome banner (and smiling faces!). If you’re attending Sanctuary worship, take the elevator or stairs to the second floor. And obviously, you could enter the front of the building for Sanctuary worship also ;)
