Compassion During the Face of Conflict

We live in divisive times. Conflicts with those around us are becoming increasingly common. The same was true in the multiethnic port city of Corinth. The conflicts in that congregation provide a test case for our own circumstances. Whether in churches or in our country, the strategy proclaimed in our passage today offers profound hope. And it gives us added strength for compassion, even in the face of conflict. Especially in light of our nation’s commemoration of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday this weekend, these words are particularly relevant. Join us and be inspired for a new week.

Additional Resources:

Dr. Jordan will be referring to two helpful books in his sermon as substantive illustrations of conflict, the sources and problems. They are vital resources for going deeper into the nature of our national tensions as well as our complex and tragic history of race relations.

  • American Nations: A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America by Colin Woodard.

  • The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein.
