PICTURE BOOK
Smoky Night by Eve Bunting
This “is a story about cats and people who couldn’t get along until a night of rioting bring them together.” It was written by Eve Bunting and illustrated by David Diaz and was winner of the 1995 Caldecott Medal, which somehow we missed when it was first published. It was also an ALA Notable Children’s Book Award and a School Library Journal Best Book of the year.
JUVENILE FICTION
The Frindle Files by Andrew Clements
This is a sequel to master storyteller Andrew Clements’ most beloved book, Frindle. “It is a story that’s both timeless and timely - about the importance of language, of digging deep to find answers, and of challenging what you think you know to imagine what is possible.”
ADULT FICTION
The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny
The 19th mystery in the New York Times’ bestselling Armand Gamache series, this is a follow up to A World of Curiosities, but it can be read on its own. “A routine break-in at the home of Sûreté homicide chief Armand Gamache leads slowly to the revelation of a potentially calamitous threat to all Quebec.” A cliffhanger, “it’s a frightening novel of duality, of good versus evil, with an allegorical tale for today’s world, as only Penny can write.” Consistently excellent reviews!
ADULT NON-FICTION
Killing the Legends: The Lethal Danger of Celebrity by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard
In this latest book by the authors’ Killing series, they “explore the lives, the legacies and tragic deaths of three of the most famous people of the twentieth century, “Elvis Presley,
John Lennon and Muhammad Ali. These three icons changed not only the worlds of music, film and sports, but the world itself.” Donated by Linda and Freddy Bailey.
