Look Out In Compassion

In his prayer of dedication for the Abbey on Iona, the Scottish pastor and poet George MacLeod echoed the words of Paul when he prayed:

We are your temple not made with hands.

We are your body.

If every wall should crumble,

and every church decay,

we are your habitation.

Nearer are you than breathing,

closer than hands and feet.

Ours are the eyes with which you, in the mystery,

Look out in compassion on the world ...

Maybe today is one of those days when you feel less than you should, wondering if you are worthy of God's grace or debating how you can in any way be used to help others. May MacLeod's prayer remind you of God's healing and powerful presence in your life, not only for you, but for the healing and hope for others, too. This is a remarkable thing. God is looking through your eyes with compassion for the world.

Let us, together, claim that truth for this day.

Love,

David
