Center on God's Vision
My wife and I rode our bikes to a local coffee shop this past weekend and started discussing some of our hopes and dreams for the new year. As we thought out loud together, we inevitably started talking about our spiritual lives.
How were we going to commit ourselves to grow in faith? How were we going to deepen our relationships with God? How were we going to better engage in our faith community in 2019?
Our discussion reminded me of Proverbs 29:18, "Where there is no vision, the people perish; but the one who keeps the law is happy."
We often hear this verse made into an ode for fulfilling our destinies, achieving our dreams, and unlocking our purpose in life. But it's not about that.
This verse from Proverbs is a reminder to keep ourselves engaged in God's vision for the world: to act justly, to demonstrate love and mercy, and to walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8).
So as you enter into the new year, consider the ways you intend to make God's vision for the world center. And ask yourself how you intend to contribute to making Earth look a little more like Heaven in 2019...
