God of hope and peace,

We come before you today trusting in your presence with us, even as we are isolated from one another.  Your presence gives us peace in our times of trouble, and hope for our days to come.

We remember those of your children who suffer from illness, especially all who suffer from the Covid-19 pandemic.  We ask your comfort for those who have suffered grief in the many kinds of losses of the pandemic.

O God, our days of waiting have stretched into weeks and months.  We join the psalmist crying, “How long must we wait, O Lord?  How long?”

For some of us, we wait in fear – fear for our health and the health of those we love, fear for lost jobs and income and the suffering it will bring.  For some, the isolation and uncertainty has prompted depression and despair.  “How long, O Lord, how long?”

But, in the silence of our solitude, we quiet our noisy hearts and hear your voice speaking peace to our fear and despair.  We remember your faithfulness in days past, and trust in your faithfulness in days to come.

Your peace is beyond our human understanding.  In our fear, may we trust in your peace and find contentment in your presence.  Your hope is greater than our despair, lifting us beyond the depths of our darkness into the light of your faithfulness.

Knowing that your peace is guarding us, we can let go of our fears, turning our hearts away from the dark nights of our souls toward the light of your love and faithfulness.  Even in our waiting we find contentment in your peace and hope.

Through our Lord Jesus we pray,

Amen
