Light of the World?

We’ve been told many things over the years. Hopefully, you’ve had people in your life who have offered encouragement. On the other hand, most of us at some point have felt the sting of hurting words; experiencing some sort of embarrassment or defeat or tough times is generally part of growing up and being human.

That, in turn, causes many of us to be very much like those in Jesus’ original audience. Hearing his words in this part of the Sermon on the Mount creates a natural reaction: Really? Me? “Light of the world?” How can it be?
