Waiting Prayer

God, we recognize that Your ways are mysterious. Teach us to be still and to wait for You.

God, we are hurting today, and we are waiting. We wait for the healing of this world. We are overwhelmed by floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and fires that are ripping apart our beautiful earth. God, everywhere we turn there is bad news. We wait for healing throughout our nations, our communities, and our hearts. Remove our hate, our prejudices, our anger. Restore our patience and our hope. Restore our humanity.

Today we pray for all those who are suffering. We pray for those who are ill, those with both visible and invisible wounds. We pray for our leaders, our friends, our enemies. We pray for the homeless and for the incarcerated. We pray for our brothers and sisters that are surrounded by poverty, war, and other injustices.

You never give up on us. God of grace, You show up in our lives in the most unexpected ways. Teach us to wait on you, trusting that your plan is not yet finished. Surprise us this week with moments of joy and laughter – give us a glimmer of your abundant love. Help us remember the story that you have written for us. Replace our fear with trust. Turn our anxiety into wonder.

Give us Your peace and joy as we live by faith and not only by sight.
