Prayer for Waiting and Hope
The scripture quoted is from Song of Songs 2:10-13.
O God of my past, my present, and my future, I have not yet given up hope. The sky may be dark today, but I know the storm will cease. The night may be long, but the sun will rise. I may not see new mercy at this very moment, but a lifetime of old mercies reminds me of your steadfast love. They remind me that you are worthy of my hope.
Your ancient, living, breathing, Word keeps my soul clasping to hope. Its words strengthen my grip on expectation and promise. One day, I will hear these words when you, my beloved, will speak to me and say,
“Arise, my darling,
my beautiful one, come with me.See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.The fig tree forms its early fruit;
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
my beautiful one, come with me."
So until that day, I wait. And hope.
Amen.
