Prayer for Our Teachers

Most of our students and teachers are beginning their fourth week of school this week. While some schools are back in person, many of our schools in the metro Atlanta area are still meeting virtually. Today, we want to offer a prayer specifically for our teachers. This prayer is written by Kayla Craig and was shared on the Liturgies for Parents Instagram account.

O God, we pray for our teachers:
For there is no guidebook for teaching in a pandemic.
We know so much of what they do goes unseen
And yet they keep digging in, cultivating hearts and minds
To invest in the youngest among us, even in the unknown.

O God, we pray for our teachers:
Who have paid out of their own pockets so our children may learn;
Who have practiced active shooter drills so our children my live;
And still, they keep pouring out and showing up.
Help us show them support and encouragement;
Help us advocate for living and loving wages
As our teachers show up once again this fall.

O God, we pray for our teachers:
We pray for the spirits of those already exhausted before the school year has begun.
We pray for those who must leave their own children to teach ours.
And we pray for those who are learning new ways
To spark connection and trust in classrooms turned upside down.

O God, we pray for our teachers:
In the temperature checks and face coverings, grant them wisdom;
In the care classrooms and canceled plans, grant them peace;
In the constant changes and growing obstacles, grant them patience;
In the mounting fears and worried hearts, grant them hope.
O God, we pray for our teachers.
Amen.
