Prayer for Memorial Day

We thank you, Oh God, for the bravery of young men and women who run headfirst into conflict and war on our behalf,

Even as we weep for the unrest and the violence that took them from us.

We thank you for selflessness and sacrifice, modeled by your son Jesus,

even as we pray for the end of innocent bloodshed.

We are grateful for our freedoms,

even as we mourn their cost.

May we not take these freedoms for granted.

May we not use them selfishly, but in service of the common good.

In Jesus name,

Amen
