Prayer for Justice

Based on Amos 5:24

O God, our help in times of trouble, hear our prayer. Our nation is sick with a virus of hate as old as the stolen land we inhabit. God, when your beloved creation cries to be seen and heard, let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

When people who are tired gather together to march and raise their voices in pleas for equality, reform, systemic change; let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

God, you are with us, you are with your people. You have created us from the dust of the earth. When we fail to see your image imprinted on our brothers and sisters; when the differences that divide us become more important than the love that unites us, let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever- flowing stream.

As we continue to look to your guidance in our lives, teach us to be seekers of justice, bringers of peace, and bearers of your love. When the journey is rocky and the days are long; and the cries for justice echo around us, let us take strength from you to press on in our work toward your dream for the world. Let your mercies to us, new every morning, move us forward. Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Amen.
