A Prayer for Comfort
Gracious God,
We are weary. We have endured four long months without the blessing of gathered worship. Our hearts which are tethered to one another in love, ache with longing to be together again. We long to hear words of peace spoken into our lives, the swell of the organ and the sweetness of the piano. We want to sing with our friends and bear witness, in person, to the lives of our beloved community.
Be with us, God, when the ache swells to overwhelming heights, plunging us into valley-like lows. Meet us in the valley as we cling to hope that we will yet reach the top of the mountain. God, you join us in our moments of deepest pain. As it ebbs and flows, in the times when our pain wanes for a few moments of welcome relief, we find gratitude for your presence with us. You continue to give us strength for each day and hope for our tomorrows.
We rest in your comforting embrace, O, God. We know that you carry our pain, and though the ache is often so deeply real that we feel it may never end, you are with us to hold us, to speak your love over us, to comfort us. Hold us in your comfort today, and each day forward. Amen.
