Prayer for a Way Forward

O God, Our Way Maker –

When our heartfelt conversations veer off course and we begin to talk past each other,
When our nouns become pronouns (US and THEM),
When the words of others carry us into uncomfortable territory,
And both the Holy Spirit and our own good judgment tell us that we are treading on very unholy ground, 
The blood of our brothers crying out from beneath our feet,
Guide us, Spirit, in the liberating path of truth telling.
Help us not to fear holy and healthy change and to be brave in the fight for justice. 
May we not be satisfied to leave one another behind in the march forward into change, 
But to help one another along in all gentleness and compassion. 
May we not stop our walk to congratulate ourselves, patting our own backs and inflating our own egos. 
But may we with humility and repentance seek to honor You O Lord by honoring our neighbor.
