Psalm 130

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD.
2 Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!
3 If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.
7 O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem.
8 It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Most loving God, your children cry unto you from the depths of our sorrow and suffering.  Hear us, O God.  In our grief and pain, hear our voices.  In our fear and worry, hear the silent cries of our hearts.

We entrust to your mercies those who put aside their own fears to care for ones who are most at risk.  When they care for those who are weak and frail, those who are old and vulnerable, they are caring for our Lord Jesus himself.  In your mercies, O God, protect those whose work is to care and to heal.

 We are fragile and yes, even afraid, as we wait in this pandemic.  We isolate ourselves in caution, and wonder if isolation is enough.  In this time of crisis what we most need is connection, to know we are not alone.  We need to know, deep in our souls, that your Spirit is present with us.  We need to see the faces of those we love.  We need to hear familiar voices of friends.  We need the reassuring touch of a hand on our shoulders.  We need each other.

In you we have faith and trust.  In the darkness of crisis we wait for your light of hope.  Draw us near, that we may know your faithfulness and steadfast love.  Shine the light of your love in the darkness of our suffering, that we may have hope.  For, hope in you will be our salvation.

Amen.
