      The award-winning author was inspired by a true story of a Monterey Bay Aquarium program that pairs orphaned otter pups with surrogate mothers.  The poignant and humorous tale told in free verse examines bravery and healing through the eyes of one of nature’s most charming and beloved animals- Odder, the otter.

      The original and ingenious plot, about a mother who witnesses her teenage son stab a man and then seizes on an unconventional way to try to save him, is so much more.  The love that the mother has for her son and her husband is beautiful.  Donated by Linda and Freddy Bailey.
